Pet Allergy
Pet allergy occurs when the proteins from your pets saliva, urine and dander causes an allergic reaction to your body. Usually these allergens attack your airways and eyes which can sometimes result to asthma and hay fever. In some cases people can also suffer from atopic dermatitis and rashes. It is really difficult to avoid the allergens from your neighbour’s pets or people who have contact with pet dander. These allergens live in pet hair and can live airborne for months thus eliminating them are difficult. There are many ways to prevent pet allergy but the best solution is to get rid of them entirely.
Causes, Symptoms and Preventions
The causes of pet allergies are due to the pet dander (dead skins), urine, and saliva that create proteins called allergens. The pet hair does not trigger allergy but the allergens trap in their hair does. The main pets that can cause allergies are dogs and cats. However, some animals like rats, horses, cows and birds can also trigger an allergic reaction.
The common symptoms of pet allergies are hay fever, asthma, rashes and dermatitis. Cat furs and saliva can also trigger allergic reactions like sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose and skin itching. If you have pet allergy you can experience redness in the skin, rashes, bronchitis and nasal congestion.
The best way in preventing pet allergy is to stay away from their dander or give up your pets. However, there are people who like pets so the best way are to find pets that are hypo allergenic. Try to clean them regularly and ask the help of a non-allergic person. Replace beddings, blankets and curtains with plastic or linoleum. Vacuum and clear your carpet regularly. Since, dander lives on air for months used High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to reduce their presence in the air.
