Food testing is done when a person is allergic to a certain kinds of food. This is a test that benefits the allergic person so he can avoid food that causes allergy.  It is important for a person to test the food allergens that can trigger such reactions. As most cases of allergy, skin test and blood tests are a common way of diagnosing the food allergens that cause reactions to trigger in your body. The most commonly used blood test is the RAST test. In this test the IgE of the antibodies are measured. A high result means that you are allergic to that food allergen.

Another way of diagnosing if you are allergic to a certain kind of food is by avoidance. However, do not avoid them simultaneously just ask your doctor what food to avoid then choose at least two. Skip the food for at least two weeks then see if the allergy subsided. If you can result then go on the other food diets because usually an allergic person has only two food allergy. This kind of testing is difficult to people who have a hard time controlling their diet. But if you have discipline and determination you can easily avoid and eliminate the food allergens in your diet.

The food challenge is another way of determining your food allergens. The procedures are as follows:

1. Traces of suspected food allergens are rubbing into the skin
2. Then contact is made in the eyes and lips
3. Afterwards food is put in the oral mucous membrane
4. If no adverse reactions occur the food is consumed by the patient

This procedure is made within a 15 minute interval for each stage. However, if the doctor sees a reaction in any of the stage then the test is aborted.

Food and vegetable allergens can be test using prick plus prick test but if it is not available you can still used RAST test.
